What The Bible Is For

The Bible is to accomplish God*s will and it shall succeed.

Isaiah 55:11: So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

The Bible is to accomplish the will of God in the hearts and lives of men. It is for doctrine, reproof, correction and instruction. Pastor Leonard Bullock pointed out that doctrine reveals how we should live, reproof convinces us that we have failed to live that way. The Bible provides the correction and instruction that we need. It furnishes us with what we need to live the way God wants us to.

The word reproof means proof, conviction, evidence, to confute, admonish, convict, convince, tell a fault, rebuke, reprove.

2 Timothy 3:16-17: All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

John 14:26: But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

John 16:8: And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:

The Bible teaches us the law and that we have broken it. Faith might be defined as the willingness to accept the correctness of God*s doctrine, the truth that we have sinned and His correction and instruction.

Faith comes by hearing the Bible.

Romans 10:17: So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

The Bible is the spiritual food that will help us to grow in our acceptance of its doctrines, reproof, correction, instruction and in faith.

1 Peter 2:2: As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:

The Bible is to be our guide.

Psalms 119:105: Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

The Bible is to set us apart.

John 17:17: Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

The Bible is to be studied, meditated upon, obeyed and preached.

2 Timothy 2:15: Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Psalms 119:148: Mine eyes prevent the night watches, that I might meditate in thy word.

James 1:22: But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

2 Timothy 4:2: Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.

The Bible is to be received, to become part of us and to change our lives as well as our eternal destination.

James 1:21: Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.

Psalms 119:11: Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.
